Lyme Disease Symptoms: Warning Signs You Need To Know

The earlier we spot Lyme disease symptoms, the better.

(That's why we created FreeLymeTest.com)

In fact, if you got bitten by a tick just now— stop reading this post! Go to the doctor and ask for antibiotics. The sooner you can take action, the more likely that you won't experience the pain, struggle, and defeat that Lyme disease symptoms have posed against millions of people.

Secondly, if you NEVER got bitten by a tick, that does not mean you are free and clear. Unfortunately people who don't remember a tick bite, get Lyme disease symptoms all the time. Personally, I got bit by a tick when I was around 7 or 8 years old. I didn't get symptoms until I was in my 20's...and that's common.

If you do not remember getting bitten by a tick, you may still have Lyme. It's spread by ticks but also spread by sexual intercourse and other animals as well. Ticks are just a perfect disease carrying vector, so they get the bad reputation.

Important note: this post is not about testing for Lyme disease symptoms. Lyme disease testing is notoriously flawed. It's not nearly as specific or as accurate as it needs to be. This makes getting a diagnosis tricky...

So how do we spot Lyme disease early, so that we never let it get to the point of taking over, causing long term symptoms, or making us feel like a shell of ourselves?

That way, we can take action to get better, faster. And never have to worry about what so many others have to worry about.

For now, the best way to tell is by symptoms— early Lyme symptoms.

Lyme Disease Symptom 1:
EM (Erythema Migrans) Rash

The first one of the Lyme disease symptoms is the EM rash.

If you or your loved one have the EM Rash, then the search for answers ends quickly. The doctor saw my EM rash and I was immediately given antibiotics and sent home. (seriously, it took about 3 minuntes)

Some say the rash looks like a bullseye, but I'll show you that's not always the case.

Here's what the EM rash looks like (it varies, so here's a few different pictures)

Here's an image of what my EM rash looked like when I was diagnosed back in 2016:

Knowing what I know now, since I had multiple lesions this was likely a disseminated infection that was causing problems for multiple different organs in my body...which explains why my Lyme case was so difficult and enduring.

If you are lucky enough to get that EM rash, then you will get a diagnosis, which is good because then you can focus your time and energy on healing your body instead of trying to find out what's wrong.

Lyme Disease Symptoms- #2: Fever and chills

The second one of the Lyme disease symptoms is fever and chills.

A sudden onset of fever and chills can be caused by Lyme disease.

This happened to me but at the time I did not know that it was Lyme disease. I remember sitting in my computer chair, trying to focus on the task at hand. One hand was holding a blanket over me, and the other was on the keyboard. I was also wearing a hoodie and sweatpants.

When I looked up at my wife, I realized she was wearing shorts and a tee shirt. I was freezing and she was warm. That's when I knew I had a fever.

I didn't know why I had a fever, but I knew that I was sick. Only a few days later, I found out I had Lyme. Again, I was not bitten by a tick except for when I was about 7 years old. (or maybe I never saw the tick?)

If you get fever and chills, that does not mean you automatically have Lyme disease. But it is a potential sign to be wary of. If you suspect Lyme, try to remember if you ever had a random fever and chills recently. If yes, you're on the right track!

Lyme Disease Symptoms - #3: Muscle and joint pain

The third one of the Lyme disease symptoms is muscle and joint pain.

It's really important to use our best judgement here. If you are an active person who gets sore all the time because of the hard workouts you're doing, this will be more difficult to notice.

But if you just constantly have muscles and joints that are aching or in pain, Lyme disease can be part of the reason why.

Why did I say "part of the reason" instead of "the cause"? Because our body's are multifunctional and multifaceted. They are not so simple as "x caused y". They are way more complex than that. Achy joints can be caused by a number of different factors.

However, Lyme disease does tend to have that effect on people. It will cause your knees, neck, hands, elbows, and hips to hurt. For some people it's never-ending pain. For others it comes and goes.

All of this can be influenced by other factors...and you can use that knowledge to your advantage— because you can set your body up by putting yourself in the best position to heal. I can show you how! So it's a really good thing you're here.

Lyme Disease Symptoms - #4: Headaches

The fourth one of the Lyme disease symptoms is headaches.

If you have headaches that seem to last a few days or go and come back, or are very intense headaches you might be dealing with Lyme disease.

Headaches are a very common symptom that people with Lyme disease report. Especially if the headaches seem to be recurring which means they are happening every day or around the same time of day on multiple days.

Headaches can also be tied to other parts of our health. It's not always going to be Lyme disease, but you might be on the right track if you suspect Lyme and also noticed more headaches.
